The Look of Our Log Home

The rendering below is an artist’s depiction of a similar log home to ours. This artwork was our starting point during the design and planning phase. We made many modifications, the story of which, is here: log home floor plan modifications.

It’s been three days since I updated this. All the days blending into one now. We’re so tired. I can’t for the life of me remember what we did on Saturday! Other than, of course, cut and place logs, check the level, made sure everything was square, and screw them into place with 12″ log bolts.

Friday
July 11th
Cutting logs, checking level, chiseling out the joints, adding gasket, screwing them down…cutting logs, checking…over and over again.

Eric firms up our order with Freymond Lumber! This is exciting as we personally know the owner and the staff at Freymond’s – we couldn’t be in better hands.

Friday
May 30th
Eric and Ben spend the day at the building site making final adjustments to the forms, and waiting on the concrete truck. Although he’d scheduled for 4:30pm, Ben and Eric were finished their work long before noon, and our concrete company was very accommodating – switching their own schedules around to ensure a more suitable delivery time. Excellent service!

Hoping both the building inspector and the architect can be reached today. Need to place the order for Logix blocks by Friday before the prices jump dramatically – as well as confirm order with log suppliers to ensure smooth timing. And…know that our footings are fine or make the necessary steps to correct them! As luck would have it both of these people did contact me today and we are set to go.

Discovered that it is nearly impossible to track down our building inspector on any day other than Monday – she’s just too busy and too much work on her plate. Monday is the only day she is employed by Carlow/Mayo Township. Perhaps if Carlow/Mayo charged the same amount per square foot as the rest of Ontario’s neighbouring region, we could have a building inspector in the area more than 4 times per month. Carlow/Mayo $.60 square foot. Faraday Township and surrounding area – $.75 square foot.

Discovered that our forms (for footings) were perhaps not approved by our Building Inspector – as there is no stamp of approval. An initial was expected, if there was a problem, a note would have been nice, but nothing – so we’re in limbo…
