Cost Associated with Building A Log Home

This is an ongoing, regularly updated post at Log Home Today, as we work away at building and financing our new log home.

The prices listed here are not exact nor are they meant to be a bargaining tool with any of our personally recommended professionals or material suppliers. Product prices, delivery, shipping costs, etc. will vary greatly between log home builds based on size of project, materials used, revisions, and how much of the work you will do yourself or contract out. Also please understand that some of our suppliers are personal friends and/or are compassionate to our plight (having suffered a house fire without much insurance money to rebuild).

This information is provided as a guideline only.

Pouring the Concrete

Friday, May 30th was a big day for us – the day we put down our first materials of the new log home.

Eric and Ben spent the day at the building site making final adjustments to the forms, and waiting on the concrete truck – they were also watching the overcast sky wondering when it might rain.

Although Eric had scheduled the concrete truck to arrive around 4:30pm, Ben and Eric were finished their work long before noon and didn’t relish the idea of standing around the construction site feeding the bugs for four and a half hours.

The concrete truck arrives with the materials needed to secure our footings.

Our concrete company – Leveque Brothers in Bancroft, Ontario – was very accommodating! With just a phone call they switched their own schedules around and arrived at 2:00 pm. Excellent service!

All in all Eric and Ben shoveled and leveled 7 yards of concrete into the footing’s forms.

Ben Kyle helps to build our log house - working on the footings in this shot.

Eric breaking his back leaning over the forms to make certain that the concrete is perfect.

Veronica and I arrived just in time (sly, yes?) to take photos and within 30 minutes we were all on our way home for a celebratory meal.
